In 2007, Robert Berlind and I purchased a plot of land across from our house in Cochecton that included a building (constructed as a home by a local family) for use as my studio. A wonderfully eccentric piece of rural American architecture, the building has seven rooms, a loft up a short flight of stairs, and plenty of storage. With lots of white paint and a few other renovations, it was gradually converted to a convenient working space, with dedicated rooms for editing, digital archiving, an inventory of my many videotapes and audiotapes, photographs, books and catalogues, flat files and paper archive, plus an accumulation of video and audio equipment of various formats used in installations over many years. My archivist is in the process of creating a record of all materials, particularly media, designated to be digitized for preservation and the recreation of past works.
